US French Students Go On a Treasure Hunt of Winter Holiday Traditions
Jobi Dan’Sy and Celine Bonnemaiso recently sent their French classes on a journey through the school to learn about the numerous winter celebrations that are enjoyed throughout our community.
The students rotated in groups of both ninth and tenth graders through a series of conversations with people who celebrate various winter holidays and collected information about the products, practices, and beliefs of each holiday.
The personal interactions with a number of faculty members sought to help the students make a deeper connection with each tradition. The students heard from Nikki Coleman on Kwanzaa, Cathy Wang on the Chinese New Year, Melissa McCourt on Quaker Practices and the Winter Solstice, Mitali Pande on Diwali, Josh Weinstein on Hanukkah, and Julia de la Torre on Bunte Teller.
