Back to Back! Boys’ Soccer Captures the NJSIAA Non-Public B South Championship
For the second straight year, Moorestown Friends hosted the NJSIAA Non-Public B South championship…and for the second consecutive year there was high drama culminating with the home team celebrating a title. This year, the Foxes and Princeton Day finished regulation tied 3-3, with the hosts winning the match on penalty kicks, 3-0.
The Foxes struck first seven minutes in when Vikram Verma ’25 neatly tucked away a cross from Charlie McFadden ’27. The Foxes had several good opportunities throughout the half but couldn’t find a second goal.
WIth 15 minutes remaining, Vikram found Preston Galanis ’25 for the Foxes second goal. Things drastically changed four minutes later when Princeton Day rattled off three goals in four minutes. Desperation set in for the Foxes and they threw several defenders forward. With 1:56 remaining Matt Schlotterbeck ’25 got a hold of a flick by Preston and finished to tie the score and send the game to overtime.
Two 10-minute overtime periods did not provide a winner and the game headed to overtime, where the star of the show was Charlie McFadden. The Foxes right back replaced goalie Jack Anaya ’28 (six saves) for penalty kicks. He proceeded to save all three Panthers kicks and Jared Kolaris ’25, Matt Schlotterbeck, and Preston Galanis all were successful. Charlie’s final save clinched the championship and the Foxes student section stormed the field.
Coach Mike Schlotterbeck’s team (11-7-2) will now head to the NJSIAA Non-Public B championship match to face Gill St. Bernard’s at Franklin High School on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Go Foxes!
