Seventh Grade Quest Students Explore Sustainable Solutions at Climate Change Symposium

Mar 19, 2021

The third annual Climate Change and Stewardship Symposium took place virtually on March 17. Seventh grade students in the Quest program moderated the event alongside teachers Jake Greenberg, Deborah Bruvik, and Avery Stern

The focus of this year’s symposium was Food Systems and Climate Change. Seventh grade students selected one of six topics to engage in:

  • Agriculture, Farming, and Food Production: How is my food actually produced?
  • Transportation and Distribution: How does food get to me?
  • Consumption: What should I eat and what are the impacts of my eating habits?
  • Marketing and Image: How should food be advertised? What should food labels say?
  • Waste and Renewal: What should happen to our food and packaging after the meal?
  • Food Justice: Who has access to healthy foods and how can this access be increased?

Following months of research and interviews with experts in the field, students targeted specific problems and designed solutions to help reduce the impact of food systems on our climate. These solutions were presented in a number of panels during the virtual symposium, which was attended by parents/guardians and other members of the MFS community.
