Seventh Grade Honors Algebra Students Get To The Heart of Equations

Seventh grade students in Scott Hanson’s Honors Introduction to Algebra course have expanded their knowledge of equations by looking at some real-world examples. They recently completed a project where each student identified heart rates by finding the pulse on the neck or arm. Using their heart’s beats per minute, they identified an upper limit, lower limit, and target heart rate when doing aerobic exercises. According to Scott, this activity helped the class learn about variables, manipulating equations, and ratios.
