Senior Project Highlight Series: Sumin Kim ’23
For her four-week Senior Project, Sumin Kim ’23 had the opportunity to help conduct research for the upcoming Philadelphia Museum of Art exhibit that will feature Korean art and culture. Her research included studying Korean artists and fashion designers, gathering information from Korean American and non-Korean American teenagers, exploring Korean pop culture in the media, and analyzing the ways Korean culture is perceived on social media. Concurrently, Sumin joined meetings on the curation of the new exhibit – what pieces will be included, how the exhibit should be marketed, and determining what a successful and meaningful exhibition would look like.
Sumin, who will attend Parsons The New School noted, “Overall, I was not only able to gain a large amount of exposure to how the museum operates and creates exhibits, but I was also able to learn new information about Korean culture. I believe that this experience will be helpful for my college major and career, and I’m extremely grateful that I had the chance to be involved with the Museum.”
During the month of May, seniors engage in off-campus pre-professional or service projects. These projects provide opportunities to explore interests that may lead to a career. Students gain hands-on experience and self-knowledge, which serves as a gentle transition from classes to the professional world. Enjoy a peak into a few of this year’s Senior Projects.
