Two Students Perform with Rowan Youth Jazz Orchestra

Graham Kennedy ’27 and Matthew Strauss ’27 performed at Rowan University with the Rowan Youth Jazz Orchestra on Sunday, December 3.

Graham and Matt have been traveling to rehearsals in Glassboro on Sunday nights since September to learn jazz performance from the Rowan faculty and to play with a group of other talented kids from all over the state. The jazz orchestra is directed by Norman “Skip” Spratt.

On five different jazz songs, Graham played drum set and percussion while Matthew played the piano, including an improvised solo. The songs included: “Broadway,” “Prime Suspect,” “Begin the Beguine,” “Mr. Timmons,” and “The Chicken.”
