Preschool and Prekindergarten Students Enjoy Music “Informance”
Musical “informances” offer preschool and prekindergarten students the opportunity to join their parents and guardians in the Lower School Music Room for a fun-filled session of shared rhythm and song.
For the first time following the pandemic, Lower School Music Teacher Tiffany Jones brought back informances on November 10 as a part of the Beginnings arts curriculum. The activity and song selections for each informance showcase a variety of musical styles and talents. For example, the recent preschool informance demonstrated how the students use syllable breakdown of daily items, such as fruits and vegetables, to determine the rhythm in a song – a pear is one beat, while a pineapple is three beats. Tiffany then explained how the students’ understanding of rhythm and beat develops as they shift from syllables, to sounds, to musical notes.
