Prekindergarten Celebrates the Week of the Young Child

This week, Nikki Coleman’s prekindergarten class celebrated the Week of the Young Child ‒ an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) that began in 1971 ‒ by engaging in themed activities. 

On Thinking Thursday the class read Come Along Daisy, a story about a curious baby duck who was so busy exploring the animals in a pond that she got separated from her mother. The class was then asked to design an invention that would allow Daisy to explore the pond, but not get separated from her mother. They were given various materials and worked in partner pairs to develop the most creative projects. The projects were then presented to the class and their designs were tested.
