A Message from Lower and Middle School Quaker Education Teacher Melissa McCourt:

At MFS, we hope students understand that they can effectively help others, whether at home or abroad. We want our students to see themselves as citizens of a deeply connected world. When the disaster in Nepal and surrounding areas in India and Tibet was announced, we knew we needed to find a way to respond.

It has become clear that the most impactful way we can support people in Nepal is through monetary donations. While the community’s inspiration to send donations abroad developed almost automatically, it took some time to decide which organization to send our collections to. After thoughtful discussions, members of the Religious Studies Department and students in the Upper School decided to send donations to UNICEF in support of their relief effort in Nepal. UNICEF is committed to responding to the needs of the Nepali people during this period of emergency and into stages of rehabilitation. UNICEF has already sent more than 85 tons of emergency supplies to areas within the Kathmandu Valley, as well as more remote villages in other districts.

Please feel free to join us in this effort by sending a contribution directly to UNICEF, or by dropping some spare change in the collection jars located at the front desk and all around Moorestown Friends.
