Nov 22, 2024

Nine MFS students attended the National High School Journalism Convention at the Philadelphia Marriott on November 8-9, representing all three student publications: Images literary magazine, WordsWorth student newspaper/digital publication, and the Cupola yearbook. Chaperoned by Middle and Upper School Art Teacher and Yearbook Co-Advisor Fran Bennett and Academic Technology Coordinator and Portal Content Director and WordsWorth Advisor Diana Day, the students participated in workshops, presentations, and the prestigious Journalism Education Association’s National Student Media Contests, competing alongside 1,326 students from across the country.

Two MFS yearbook staffers earned recognition for their exceptional work:

Erika Capella ’27: Superior Award for Yearbook Copy/Caption: Student Life

Lorelei Short Pfleger ‘27: Honorable Mention for Yearbook Copy/Caption: Clubs

In addition to the competition, Diana Day presented a session titled “Cultivating Healthy Hustle,”  joined by WordsWorth staffers Emmie Huynh ’27 (Features Editor), Chloe Marshall ’26 (Art Director), and Livia Kam ’26 (Associate Editor of Blog).

The event provided an exciting opportunity for students to develop their skills and showcase their talents on a national stage.
