Lunar New Year Events – Year of the Dragon
The MFS school community participated in a variety of Chinese New Year events including:
- Chinese teacher Li Li’s 11th grade students marked the Lunar New Year on Friday, February 7, by performing the Lion Dance for Lower School students. The Lion Dance is a traditional Chinese dance performance in which dancers (students) work in rhythm to music in a lion costume. The symbolism of the dance is to bring good fortune for the year ahead.
- Kelly Zemaitis’ first grade class, students enjoyed a special visit from a parent who educated them about the celebration by sharing insights into Lunar New Year traditions. She read stories and demonstrated how her family celebrates at home. In addition, students learned the traditional Gong Xi Gong Xi song, followed by an activity during which they created lanterns that they could take home with them.
- 7th & 8th grade students in Cathy Wangs’ class took a field trip to Chinatown.
- Upper School students joined Moorestown’s Chinese community celebrating the Chinese New Year on February, 17.
