Lower School Students Conclude Restorative Justice Unit with Special MLK, Jr. Program and MFW
Throughout January, the Lower School participated in a month-long study of restorative justice, which culminated in a special Martin Luther King, Jr. program and Meeting for Worship on January 24. The lessons included studying the civil rights and Black Lives Matter movements, women’s rights movements, and reading poems and speeches by Martin Luther King, Jr, Amanda Gorman, and more.
To prepare for the January 24 program, students created their own poems, presentations, and artwork, which expressed what they learned about justice, civil rights, equity, and nonviolence. Working together, the students in each class determined the messages that they wanted to share. The presentations during the program ranged from statements about caring for one another and poetry readings to presentations on the timeline of Civil Rights events throughout America’s history.
