Sixth Graders Explore Earthquakes and Engineer Earthquake-Resistant Buildings
Sixth grade science students in MS/US Science Teacher Matt Lubicky’s class have been exploring how the world works through the phenomenon of earthquakes. One aspect of their study has involved analyzing how earthquakes affect humans and the structures they build. They recently completed their Engineering Adventures unit where they were tasked with building an earthquake-resistant building out of various classroom materials. Their buildings were constructed on top of model shake tables where they could simulate various magnitude earthquakes. They demonstrated their buildings at the recent conclusion of the second quarter. Lots of budding engineers in the Middle School!
